BMus Hons

What you will study

Performance is at the core of the BMus programme. You will receive individual tuition in your Principal Study instrument/voice along with ensemble music opportunities and a comprehensive range of studies providing sound theoretical understanding and knowledge and insight into the cultural and historical aspects of the repertoire.

This BMus programme has a common core of subjects in Years 1 and 2, with a major emphasis on performance combined with supporting academic study, including various subjects such as compositional techniques, history of music, aural training and an introduction to education studies and music technology. Participation in ensembles is an integral part of the programme.

In Years 3 and 4, as well as continuing your performance study and participation in ensembles, you choose a strand which enables you to concentrate on one of the following:

  • Performance
  • Pedagogy (Instrumental/Vocal Teaching)
  • Composition
  • Irish Traditional Music
  • Musicology

Training is delivered with a professional perspective, through masterclasses and mentor link-ups with professional artists and companies.

Exchange opportunities

You can choose to spend part of your studies abroad.  Partnerships have been formed with many high-profile conservatoires in Europe – click here for further details.
