Jazz Improvisation
NFQ Level 6 (5 ECTS credits)
This course introduces students with technical proficiency on their instrument/voice to the concept of jazz improvisation and performance. Students will be taught in an ensemble format, with an emphasis on self-directed preparation. Subjects covered include:

Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course students will have:
- A knowledge and understanding of the practical application of jazz harmony and theory, improvisation and jazz techniques.
- A knowledge of the broad periods of the history of jazz and appropriate repertoire.
- A competency in performing selected jazz standards within ensemble settings.
- A competency in performing as part of an ensemble and understanding of the role of the students’ instrument/voice within a ensemble context.
On completion of the course, students will receive 5 ECTS at NFQ Level 6.
