Quintessential Sax Quartet win 2013 Galway Apprentice Ensemble

Congratulations to the Quintessential Sax Quartet who have been announced as the 2013 Galway Apprentice Ensemble.  The Apprentice Ensemble project offers groups of musicians dedicated tuition time with members of The Galway Ensemble in Residence – ConTempo Quartet. A dedicated practice space and other practical resources are also provided to further their expertise, enjoyment and skills in ensemble playing. The position provides performance opportunities - many of them professional. 

The musicians are:
Gavin Brennan, Soprano Sax
David Conway, Tenor Sax
Sean Kenny, Alto Sax
Stephen O'Brien, Baritone Sax

Quintessential Sax Quartet was established in 2012 with a keen interest in composing and arranging new music for saxophone quartet.  Works by composers as varied as Debussy, Mozart, Bach, Ravel and Kodaly have been arranged and performed by the quartet in venues such as the National Concert Hall, City Hall Dublin and St. Patrick's Cathedral.

The four member are students of Kevin Hanafin at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
