DIT Conservatory students feature on a new CD release from The Thomas Moore Festival.  The Conservatory was one the partner organisations for the Festival, presenting My Gentle Harp: Thomas Moore Festival for Young Singers in the National Concert Hall in January 2008.

The Thomas Moore Festival releases its first CD Box Set of the complete Moore’s Irish Melodies extending to over seven hours of recordings, recorded at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.  This world-premiere collection includes all 124 of Moore’s songs in performances by 21 of Ireland’s finest young vocalists with Úna Hunt and Mairéad Hurley on piano.  Moore's timeless Irish Melodies receive a fresh approach through these vocal talents and the collection is part of an extensive project to honour Moore 200 years after the publication of the first of his world-famous songs.

The Irish Melodies achieved international fame and defined Irish culture throughout the nineteenth century at home and abroad with such memorable songs as The Last Rose of Summer, The Meeting of the Waters, Believe Me if all those Endearing Young Charms, The Minstrel Boy, The Harp That Once Through Tara’s Halls and Silent, Oh Moyle.  Having stood at the vanguard of national song now for 200 hundred years, they are still among the greatest musical treasures of today.

The Thomas Moore Festival, supported by DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, brings Moore’s legacy back to life through a comprehensive nationwide and Northern Ireland concert tour of 26 venues and a travelling exhibition: My Gentle Harp.  The Festival is also coordinating a number of other world-premiere CD recordings and podcasts, including tracks for the Thomas Moore Hypermedia Archive.
